Canadian Red Cross Youth Worker

Youth leaders support the Red Cross Youth First Aid program by teaching the Ready to Be Left Alone! and Babysitters in the Know courses. Candidates who meet the prerequisites can enroll in the Youth Leader training program, which will enable them to create a dynamic, learner-centred learning environment.

Details

Prerequisite

  • Must be at least 18 years old, or between 16 and 17, and have adult support during lessons.
  • General First Aid Certificate with CPR Level C, or equivalent.

Criteria for success

  • Successful completion of the online component (Fundamentals of pedagogy for youth leaders).
  • Successful completion of a teaching internship (with the exceptions set out below).

Post-course requirements

Youth leader candidates must successfully complete a teaching internship under the supervision of a duly certified Canadian Red Cross youth leader. The following exceptions apply: Red Cross monitors or instructors (first aid or water safety) must obtain current participant materials (explained in detail below) and successfully complete the online training course entitled "Fundamentals of Teaching for Youth Leaders". Teachers (primary or secondary level) must obtain current participant materials (detailed below) and successfully complete the online training course entitled "Pedagogical Fundamentals for Youth Leaders".
