      Frequently asked questions

Frequently Asked Questions — Home Blood Draws

Everything you need to know before booking a home nursing visit for your blood tests and medical analyses anywhere in Quebec.

Is a prescription required for a blood test at home?

Yes. In Quebec, all blood tests require a prescription issued by an authorized healthcare professional: doctor, nurse practitioner (NP), medical technologist, respiratory therapist, or radiologic technologist. If you do not have a prescription, our nurse can, in certain situations, order the tests under the legal framework of autonomous nursing prescription.

What is the cost of a home blood draw?

The cost depends on the type of tests prescribed, the geographical area, and the timing of the appointment. A clear quote is provided when you book your appointment, with an official receipt given for submission to your private insurer, if applicable.

Do my private insurances cover in-home services?

Most private and group insurance plans cover all or part of the costs for sample collection and analysis. Reimbursement depends on your plan. We will provide you with an official receipt containing all the necessary codes for your claim.

Do you need to fast before a blood test at home?

It depends on the tests ordered. Some tests require fasting for 8 to 12 hours (blood sugar, lipid profile, ferritin, among others). Others require no preparation. We come early in the morning when fasting is required to ensure your comfort. Specific instructions will be given to you when you make your appointment.

What are the turnaround times for my results?

The majority of results are available within a few business days after being sent to accredited partner laboratories of the LSPQ and MSSS. Certain specialized analyses may take longer. Results are sent directly to your attending physician, who will ensure appropriate clinical follow-up.

Is the service offered in RPA and CHSLD?

Yes. Our nurses regularly visit private seniors' residences (RPA) and adapt their approach to the elderly or those with loss of autonomy. For CHSLDs, contact us to verify current agreements at your facility.

Can I do an STI test at home?

Yes. Home STI testing preserves your privacy and makes the process easier. Samples (blood, urine, or swabs) are collected confidentially and discreetly sent to partner laboratories. Results are communicated according to current Quebec protocols.

      What prescriptions are accepted?

We accept prescriptions issued by any healthcare professional authorized to prescribe in Quebec. Prescriptions from naturopaths, osteopaths, homeopaths, chiropractors, and acupuncturists are not recognized for medical testing in the province. Prescriptions issued outside of Quebec are evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

What regions are served in Quebec?

Our network of nurses serves several regions: Greater Montreal, Laval, Montérégie and South Shore, North Shore and Lanaudière, as well as the Laurentians. Availability may vary by area. If your municipality is not listed in our usual zones, contact us to assess coverage.

      Who performs home sample collection?

All home blood draws are performed by licensed nurses who are members of the Ordre des infirmières et infirmiers du Québec (OIIQ) or the Ordre des infirmières et infirmiers auxiliaires du Québec (OIIAQ). Our team is trained in venous puncture techniques, the management of single-use sterile materials, and adherence to aseptic protocols in a home setting.

Can my employer fund this service for its employees?

Yes. Our B2B service includes pre-employment screenings, workplace testing, and on-site analysis directly at the company's premises. For organizations subject to medical surveillance obligations (heavy metals, contaminants, regulated sectors), we offer customized programs with mobile on-site services.

How do I book a home visit?

Reservations can be made by phone at 514 606-3350 or through our online form. Our team will coordinate your appointment based on your address, availability, and any instructions related to your prescribed tests. You will receive a confirmation with preparation instructions.
