How is the clinical management carried out

1
Initial contact and planning

A member of our team will schedule a home visit or an introductory call, depending on your situation. No medical prescription is required. A caregiver or family member can make the request on behalf of the veteran.

2
Initial assessment by the clinical nurse

An experienced clinical nurse performs a comprehensive assessment: general health status, pain, mental health, medications, mobility, and functional needs. She identifies clinical priorities and determines if a physician needs to intervene.

3
Medical intervention if required

When a medical need is identified, a consultation with one of our doctors is quickly arranged—in person or via teleconsultation—to establish a diagnosis, adjust treatment, or issue specialist referrals.

4
Personalized care plan and continuous monitoring

An adjustable care plan is proposed, taking into account the patient's evolving needs. Our team ensures close follow-up in collaboration with the family, caregivers, and existing medical resources, including ACC where applicable.

Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC)

Assessment and some treatments may be eligible for reimbursement through ACC, subject to prior conditions and authorizations. We collaborate with ACC stakeholders to produce the required documentation and support your claim for benefits.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently Asked Questions — Clinical Support Veterans

Everything you need to know about our clinical care service for veterans, first responders, and their loved ones in Quebec.

Is this service reserved exclusively for veterans?

No. The service is offered primarily to former members of the Canadian Armed Forces, but it is also available to anyone who has served in a uniformed body – police officers, firefighters, peace officers – or is living with physical or mental aftereffects related to professional service. Spouses and close caregivers can also receive clinical support within this framework.

Do I need a medical prescription to access the service?

No. The initial assessment can be performed by a clinical nurse practitioner without a prescription. If a diagnosis, prescription, or medical follow-up is required following the assessment, a doctor from the clinic will be involved to ensure complete care—in person or via telemedicine.

Is the service recognized by Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC)?

Yes, in several cases. Assessment and certain treatments may be eligible for reimbursement through ACC, subject to the applicable conditions and prior authorizations for each case. We can collaborate with ACC stakeholders to produce the required documentation and support your claim for benefits. For details specific to your situation, please contact us directly.

How does the first meeting go?

A member of our team will schedule an in-home visit or introductory call, depending on your preference. The assessment will be conducted by an experienced clinical nurse, trained in military settings. A medical consultation can be initiated quickly if the need is identified. A personalized care plan will then be proposed, adjustable according to the patient's evolving needs.

Is PTSD treated in this department?

Yes. Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is one of the most frequently encountered conditions among former military personnel and first responders. Our team conducts the initial clinical assessment, provides psychological support, and coordinates referrals to specialized trauma resources when required. The approach is confidential, non-judgmental, and takes into account the patient's operational context.

Can caregivers make appointments for a veteran?

Yes. A family member or caregiver can make the appointment request with the patient's consent. A loved one can also be present during the assessment if the patient wishes. Our teams work closely with the patient's entourage to ensure care coordination adapted to the family's reality.

Is the service available throughout Quebec?

In-person care is currently offered in the greater Montreal area and its surroundings. For veterans residing in other regions of Quebec, structured follow-up is possible through telemedicine, combined with local clinical partners for field intervention when required. Contact us to verify the coverage available according to your place of residence.

Is the service covered by RAMQ?

Certain elements of the service are covered by the RAMQ, including medical consultations. Other components—such as specialized nursing care, clinical assessment, and non-medical mental health support—may be eligible for reimbursement by ACC or certain private insurance plans. For details specific to your situation, consult the Pricing section or contact the clinic directly.

Is the service confidential?

Yes. All exchanges are strictly confidential and protected in accordance with applicable Quebec privacy standards and the professional obligations of health professional orders. No information is shared with a third party—including Veterans Affairs Canada, family, or the Canadian Armed Forces—without the patient's explicit consent, except in cases of medical emergency or when required by law.

Is there a discount for senior veterans?

Oui.

Can this service be combined with other treatments at the clinic?

Yes. Clinical support for veterans can be integrated into other services at the Omicron Clinic based on needs identified during the assessment: wound care, home nursing care, blood draws, chronic disease management, remote remote patient monitoring, telemedicine, ADL support, or cardiovascular assessment. This integration allows for comprehensive and coordinated care.

Can retired firefighters and police officers access this service?

Yes. The service is for anyone who has served in a uniformed corps, including retired police officers, firefighters, and peace officers living with physical or mental impairments related to their careers. The realities of frontline operational work share several commonalities with military experience: exposure to trauma, chronic pain, PTSD, and difficult career transitions.
