How clinical management works

1
Initial contact and planning

A member of our team will schedule a home visit or introductory call based on your situation. No medical prescription is required. A caregiver or family member can make the request on behalf of the veteran.

2
Initial assessment by the nurse clinician

An experienced nurse clinician performs a complete assessment: general health, pain, mental health, medication, mobility and functional needs. She identifies clinical priorities and determines whether a physician is required.

3
Medical intervention if required

When a medical need is identified, a consultation with one of our doctors is quickly triggered - in person or via teleconsultation - to make a diagnosis, adjust a treatment or issue specialized referrals.

4
Personalized care plan and ongoing monitoring

An adjustable care plan is proposed, taking into account the patient's evolving needs. Our team ensures follow-up in close collaboration with the family, caregivers and existing medical resources, including VAC where appropriate.

Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC)

Assessment and certain treatments may be eligible for reimbursement through VAC, subject to prior authorization and conditions. We work with VAC to produce the required documentation to support your claim.

Spouses and caregivers can also benefit from clinical support.

Do I need a medical prescription to access the service?

No. The initial assessment can be carried out by a nurse clinician without a prescription. If a diagnosis, prescription or medical follow-up is required following the assessment, a clinic physician will intervene to ensure complete management - in person or via teleconsultation.

Is the service recognized by Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC)?

Yes, in many cases. Assessment and certain treatments may be eligible for reimbursement through VAC, depending on the conditions and prior authorizations applicable to each case. We can work with VAC to produce the required documentation to support your claim. For details on your specific situation, please contact us directly.

How does the first meeting go?

A member of our team will schedule a home visit or introductory call according to your preferences. The assessment is conducted by an experienced nurse clinician, trained in the military context. A medical consultation can be promptly initiated if the need is identified. A personalized care plan is then proposed, adjustable according to the patient's evolving needs.

Is PTSD treated in this department?

Yes, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is one of the most frequently encountered conditions among former military personnel and first responders. Our team carries out the initial clinical assessment, provides psychological support and coordinates referrals to specialized trauma resources when required. Our approach is confidential and non-judgmental, and takes into account the patient's operational context.

Can caregivers make an appointment for a veteran?

Yes, a family member or caregiver can request an appointment with the patient's consent. If the patient wishes, a close relative can also attend the assessment. Our teams work in close collaboration with family and friends to ensure that care is coordinated with the family's needs.

Is the service available everywhere in Quebec?

Face-to-face care is currently offered in and around the Greater Montreal area. For veterans living in other regions of Quebec, structured follow-up is available via telemedicine, combined with local clinical partners for on-site intervention when required. Contact us to find out what coverage is available where you live.

Is the service covered by RAMQ?

Some elements of the service are covered by RAMQ, notably medical consultations. Other components - such as specialized nursing care, clinical assessment and non-medical mental health accompaniment - may be eligible for reimbursement by VAC or certain private insurance plans. For details, depending on your situation, consult the Fees section or contact the clinic directly.

Is the service confidential?

Yes, all exchanges are strictly confidential and protected in accordance with confidentiality standards applicable in Quebec and the professional obligations of health orders. No information is transmitted to a third party - including VAC, family or the Armed Forces - without the patient's explicit consent, except in the event of a medical emergency or if required by law.

Is there a discount for older veterans?

Yes, the Omicron Clinic offers a discount of 15 % on consultations to people aged 65 and over. This includes senior veterans accessing the clinical support service. Certain conditions may apply. See the Pricing section of the site or contact us directly for details based on your situation.

Can this service be combined with other treatments at the clinic?

Yes, clinical support for veterans can be integrated with other Omicron Clinic services, depending on the needs identified during the assessment: wound care, home nursing, blood sampling, chronic disease management, remote UVO monitoring, telemedicine, ADL support or cardiovascular assessment. This integration enables comprehensive, coordinated care.

Can retired firefighters and police officers access this service?

Yes, the service is open to anyone who has served in a uniformed force, including retired police officers, firefighters and peace officers who are living with career-related physical or mental scars. The realities of first-response operational work share many similarities with the military experience: exposure to trauma, chronic pain, PTSD and difficult career transitions.
