Frequently asked questions about physiotherapy
Rehabilitation, sports injuries, treatment techniques, CNESST, reimbursements and procedure - everything you need to know about our services at Clinique Omicron.
Consult a physiotherapist for persistent muscle or joint pain, after a sports injury (sprain, tear, tendonitis), following orthopedic surgery, mobility limitations, recurrent back or neck pain, positional vertigo, or post-accident rehabilitation (CNESST, SAAQ). Early assessment promotes faster recovery and prevents compensation and recurrence. No medical prescription is required to access physiotherapy, although it is sometimes required for reimbursement.
Physiotherapy focuses on the diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal injuries and conditions. It includes manual techniques, electrotherapy and targeted therapeutic exercises. Kinesiology focuses on human movement, fitness, injury prevention and return to sport or activity. The two approaches are complementary: physiotherapy treats the acute condition, kinesiology takes over to consolidate functional gains and improve overall physical capabilities. At Clinique Omicron, the two disciplines work closely together.
Yes, sciatica (pain radiating down the leg along the sciatic nerve) and herniated discs are among the most frequently treated conditions in physiotherapy. The approach includes spinal mobilization techniques, lumbar stabilization and pain centralization exercises (McKenzie method), neuromeningeal stretching and adapted postural advice. In most cases, physiotherapy avoids the need for surgery. In cases of significant neurological deficit, collaboration with a physician or orthopedist is essential.
Vestibular rehabilitation is a specialized physiotherapy approach to treating vertigo, dizziness and balance disorders of vestibular (inner ear) or cervical origin. For benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV), the Epley maneuver is used to reposition inner-ear crystals, often resolving the problem in one or two sessions. For other vestibular disorders, a program of oculomotor and balance re-education exercises is drawn up according to the results of the assessment. A medical prescription may be useful to guide the treatment.
Yes, perineal physiotherapy is aimed at women and men with pelvic floor dysfunctions: urinary or fecal incontinence, prolapse, chronic pelvic pain, pain during intercourse, diastasis of the rectus abdominis, or post-partum and post-surgical recovery (prostatectomy, hysterectomy). Treatment includes muscle re-education exercises, internal and external manual techniques, biofeedback and lifestyle recommendations. A confidential and respectful assessment is guaranteed.
Yes, post-surgical rehabilitation is one of our specialties. After orthopedic surgery (ACL reconstruction, hip or knee arthroplasty, rotator cuff repair, meniscus surgery, spinal fusion), a progressive rehabilitation program is essential to regain mobility, strength and function. The protocol is established in agreement with your surgeon and adjusted according to healing times and your functional goals. We also coordinate with orthopedics and kinesiology for an optimal return to activity.
Extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) is a non-invasive technique that uses high-energy acoustic pulses to stimulate tissue regeneration and reduce chronic pain. It is particularly effective for plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendinopathy, tennis elbow, shoulder rotator tendinopathy and tendon calcifications. It is recommended when conventional treatments have not produced satisfactory results after 3 to 6 months. A program of 3 to 5 sessions is generally proposed.
Physiotherapy is generally not covered by the RAMQ for the general population. However, sessions are often partially or fully reimbursed by private group insurance plans under the category of paramedical care. The CNESST and SAAQ provide full coverage for treatment resulting from a work or road accident. Some specific public plans (IVAC, military) also include physiotherapy. Check your coverage with your insurer. See our Pricing section for more information.
Yes, we accept rehabilitation patients with CNESST (occupational injuries) and SAAQ (road accidents) files. Treatment is covered directly by these organizations, at no cost to the patient, provided the file has been opened and accepted. Our team works with CNESST and SAAQ agents to produce the required progress reports and coordinate the vocational or functional rehabilitation plan. Bring your file number and documents from the paying organization to your first consultation.
The number of sessions varies according to the nature and age of your condition. A recent acute injury can be resolved in 4 to 8 sessions, while post-surgical rehabilitation or a chronic condition may require several months of follow-up. Your physiotherapist will establish an initial treatment plan at the first session and re-evaluate it regularly. The goal is always to get you back on your feet and managing your condition as quickly as possible, thanks to an adapted home exercise program.
No. In Quebec, physiotherapists are autonomous professionals-no medical prescription is required for a consultation. You can make an appointment directly with them. However, some private insurers, the CNESST and the SAAQ may require a medical prescription for reimbursement. If you have imaging results (X-ray, MRI, ultrasound) or a medical report, bring them with you for a full evaluation at the first session.
You can book an appointment via our online portal, by telephone at 514 606-3350 or by e-mail at info@cliniqueomicron.ca. No medical referral is required. When booking your appointment, please specify your main condition so that we can direct you to the physiotherapist best suited to your needs. Wear comfortable clothing that allows access to the treatment area. Bring your imaging results and insurance number (CNESST, SAAQ or private insurance) if applicable.
