Blood testing policies in Quebec

In Quebec, blood testing is a process that requires a prescription from a licensed health care professional, such as physicians, nurses, medical technologists, respiratory therapists, and radiology technologists. However, prescriptions completed by naturopaths, osteopaths, homeopaths, chiropractors, and acupuncturists are not recognized. Prescriptions can be individual or group prescriptions and do not have a limited validity period unless the physician indicates otherwise.

Blood test prescriptions from physicians practicing outside of Quebec are generally not accepted, except in special situations such as for travelers requiring regular check-ups. In the case of a prolonged stay, a new prescription from a health professional authorized in Quebec may be required.
