Frequently asked questions about nutrition
Weight loss, diabetes, digestive disorders, sports nutrition, online consultation - everything you need to know about our nutritionists' services at Clinique Omicron.
Consult a nutritionist if you want to lose or maintain your weight sustainably, manage a medical condition through diet (diabetes, cholesterol, hypertension, thyroid disease), relieve digestive disorders (bloating, reflux, IBS), improve your relationship with food, optimize your sports nutrition or simply adopt better habits for your overall health. No medical referral is required for consultation.
Yes, our approach to weight loss is based on sustainable, personalized strategies, without restrictive diets or extreme deprivation. The nutritionist analyzes your habits, weight history, relationship with food and goals to develop a realistic, step-by-step eating plan. The emphasis is on long-term habits rather than quick, fleeting results.
Yes, diet is a central pillar in the control of type 2 diabetes. Our nutritionists draw up a dietary plan focusing on carbohydrate balance, choice of foods with a suitable glycemic index, portion management and meal organization to stabilize blood sugar levels. This follow-up is ideally coordinated with the attending physician to optimize the combined effects of diet and medication.
Yes, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), chronic bloating, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and food intolerances (lactose, gluten) are specialties of our nutritionists. The FODMAP approach - a progressive elimination method for fermentable carbohydrates - is a clinically validated strategy for identifying your digestive triggers and enabling you to eat again without fear, while retaining the pleasure of eating.
Yes, our nutritionists help amateur and competitive athletes optimize their diet to improve performance, endurance and recovery. We develop nutritional strategies tailored to your type of sport, your training volume and your objectives (mass gain, weight loss, performance, injury prevention). Pre-, during- and post-exercise nutrition is precisely planned according to your needs.
Yes, online consultation offers the same professional support as in a clinic: assessment of eating habits, development of a personalized plan, follow-up on goals and adjustments. It's a convenient option for initial consultations, regular follow-ups or adjustments to an existing plan. Online consultations are particularly popular for weight loss, chronic disease management and sports nutrition.
Conscious (or intuitive) eating is an approach that helps you reconnect with your body's natural hunger and satiety signals, reduce emotional eating behaviors and rediscover the pleasure of guilt-free eating. Unlike restrictive diets, it fosters a healthy, lasting relationship with food, helping to stabilize your natural weight over the long term. It is a particularly effective approach for people who have experienced cycles of restriction-excess.
Yes, our pediatric nutritionists work with children, adolescents and their families to promote healthy eating habits from an early age. Our approach is adapted to different developmental stages and family realities: food diversification, food selectivity, healthy weight in children, preparation of balanced meals for the whole family and prevention of nutritional deficiencies during growth.
Yes, well-planned vegetarian and vegan diets are nutritionally adequate, but require special attention to prevent deficiencies (protein, iron, calcium, vitamin B12, vitamin D, omega-3, zinc). Our nutritionists can help you structure a balanced, varied diet tailored to your preferences, whether you're a vegetarian, vegan or transitioning to a more plant-based way of eating.
Dietitian-nutritionist services are generally not covered by RAMQ, but may be reimbursed in whole or in part by many private group or individual insurance plans. What's more, these services may be tax-deductible as eligible federal and provincial medical expenses. We recommend that you verify the details of your coverage directly with your insurer before your consultation. See our Underwriting section for more information.
The dietitian-nutritionist is a regulated health professional, member of the Ordre des diététistes-nutritionnistes du Québec (ODNQ), university-trained and empowered to treat medical conditions through diet. His or her recommendations are evidence-based. Naturopaths, on the other hand, are not regulated health professionals in Quebec, and their practices are not necessarily scientifically validated. For the management of medical conditions, a nutritionist who is a member of the ODNQ is recommended.
You can book an appointment via our online portal, by telephone at 514 606-3350 or by e-mail at info@cliniqueomicron.ca. Consultations are offered in-clinic or online, depending on your preference. No medical referral is required. It may be helpful to write down your eating habits, goals and questions in advance to maximize the effectiveness of your first meeting with your nutritionist.
