PRIVATE HEALTH CARE IN QUEBEC

Vaccination protects both the individual and those around them, but between waiting at the pharmacy, CLSC appointments that are sometimes far away, and transportation difficulties for some people, many postpone or give up on getting vaccinated. For seniors, infants, patients recovering from illness, or very busy families, this delay becomes a real risk.

Home vaccination turns this logic on its head. An OIIQ-member nurse comes to your home, administers the required vaccine in a calm environment, updates your medical record, and stays with you during the observation period. Whether it’s for the annual flu shot, the new RSV vaccine for seniors, a missed childhood booster, or travel preparation, you can stay up to date without any hassle.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently Asked Questions About Home Vaccinations

Pricing, available vaccines, travel, PIQ compliance, and the vaccination process—everything you need to know.

How much does a home vaccination visit cost?

Is the flu vaccine free when administered at home?

The vaccine itself may be covered by the provincial program for certain groups, but the home visit service is still subject to a fee. Details will be confirmed when you schedule your appointment.

What vaccines are available?

Influenza, RSV (Arexvy, Abrysvo), shingles (Shingrix), pneumococcal, Tdap, hepatitis, meningococcal, HPV, travel vaccines (Dukoral, Twinrix, Vivaxim, typhoid, rabies, Japanese encephalitis), and pediatric vaccines as per the PIQ.

Which professionals make house calls?

A nurse who is a member of the Ordre des infirmières et infirmiers du Québec (OIIQ), trained in vaccination and authorized to administer the Quebec Immunization Protocol.

Is a doctor's prescription required?

For most vaccines, an OIIQ nurse may administer them in accordance with the PIQ without a prescription. Certain travel vaccines or vaccines not covered by the PIQ require a prior prescription, which an Omicron physician can provide as needed.

When should you make an appointment before a trip?

Ideally, 6 to 8 weeks before departure. Some vaccines (rabies, Japanese encephalitis, hepatitis) require 2 or 3 doses administered at intervals. For last-minute trips, partial coverage is still possible.

Is the vaccination record up to date?

Yes. The nurse documents the vaccination on site and enters it into the provincial registry when applicable.

How long does a visit last?

On average, 20 to 30 minutes, including the pre-vaccination assessment, the administration of the vaccine, and the post-vaccination observation period.

Can multiple people be vaccinated during a single visit?

Yes. Family visits are possible and are often more economical. Please specify this when making your request.

What should you do if you have a reaction to the vaccine?

The nurse will remain on site for the recommended monitoring and will provide instructions in case of a delayed reaction. In case of an emergency, call 911.

Are you a designated yellow fever center?

The yellow fever vaccine is administered exclusively at centers designated by the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC). If your destination requires it, we will refer you to the nearest designated center and arrange for your other travel vaccines to be delivered to your home.

Is this service available to retirement communities and senior living facilities?

Yes. We organize mobile vaccination clinics with direct coordination between our nurses and your healthcare staff—flu shots, RSV vaccinations, booster shots, and record updates.

Omicron Clinic’s at-home vaccination service provides direct access to an OIIQ-certified nurse in your home, anywhere in Quebec, subject to availability in your area. This private service complies with the Quebec Immunization Protocol (PIQ) and is integrated with UVO nursing care, home healthcare, and teleconsultation.
